When a family reaches out to me wondering which ship they should pick. We talk in depth about it! Then the next decision is the stateroom and almost always I hear the same quick reasoning. Typically, it’s we don’t need a veranda I’m fine with an oceanview.

Families spend weeks choosing their Disney cruise ship and about ten minutes choosing their stateroom. Then they live in that ten-minute decision every single day of the sailing.

The stateroom conversation deserves better than a 10-second thought.

A stateroom is not like a hotel room.

When pricing things out, you’ll consider things like: Inside, Oceanview, and Verandah. Then there’s deluxe categories and even concierge staterooms. But you shouldn’t consider these like price points for the same vacation because they produce three entirely different vacations. It gets even more complicated when you dig in because specific room locations impact layouts & sizes.

Whether the verandah earns its price depends on how your family actually uses a ship. On a port-heavy sailing where you’re off exploring from breakfast to fireworks needs different choice than the parents whose favorite hour is sunset on the balcony with drinks in hand. See what I mean?

Some parents come to me worried about the verandah and I’ll be honest I can’t change your comfort level but typically when I come armed with facts they reconsider. The veranda upgrade becomes worth every penny.

Location is another silent variable.

Two identical staterooms in different spots on the ship are not the same experience. If you’ve cruised before you know this but noise, motion, and how far you’re carrying a sleeping kid at 9pm all live in the location decision. There’s benefits to aft, forward, port side and starboard and the best recommendations can even be itinerary specific. It can be a lot deciding on your own! It’s something the booking page won’t warn you about.

The “guaranteed” category is sometimes the expensive one.

Every fleet has rooms that look like smart savings and while I do take advantage of these from time to time myself, it’s not the easy answer some families think it is. I certainly don’t recommend them for first time sailing! It can turn into an expensive mistake quickly because it’s sort of a gamble. Sometimes, you’ll get an amazing spot, other times you’re stuck with the bottom of the barrel. If you’re used to Disney Cruises or sailing an itinerary that is full of port days, maybe that’s a gamble you’re willing to take. But if it’s your family’s first time sailing on any cruise, skip this and actually consider where you want to be on the ship.

Now here’s why I’m telling you this RIGHT NOW: stateroom pricing on Disney Cruise Line isn’t static. Fares climb as categories fill, which means the best room at the best price exists on release day and rarely again after. When the new itineraries drop, and it could be any day now, the families on my release-alert list aren’t browsing. They’re booking the room that fits them while everyone else is still reading the announcement.

Whenever a family asks me which Disney ship to book, they're usually expecting an easy answer. Everyone has a favorite ship, but that’s not going to be my answer. What they get instead is a question: tell me about your family.

Each of the Disney ships has a unique personality. Some are great for couples trips, some are larger than life while others are small and intimate and perfect for those who are a little more anxious about sailing with their toddlers. And matching your family to the wrong personality is the most expensive mistake in cruise planning, because you’ll spend the same money either way.

Here’s how I would break them down!

The classic ships are smaller.

They can be easier to navigate, and carry a kind of charm the enthusiasts quietly guard. This can look like less overwhelm for little kids, shorter walks for grandparents, and a loyal following that rebooks them on purpose. The advice to “skip the older ships” is some of the worst I see online. Bigger isn’t always better! These smaller ships have more unique features like dining with Rapunzel & Tiana, the better ship layout for adults focused cruises and the staff that really makes an impact. These smaller ships also sail on the more unique itineraries we have right now and the itinerary is more than half the reason to sail for a lot of families! If you have your heart set on Alaska for example, you’re most likely sailing on one of the classic ships. And that should excite you!

The newer ships bring the WOW factor.

They’re bigger and bolder, packed with the headline experiences you’ve seen all over your social media feed. For some families that energy IS the vacation. For others it’s a lot of ship to manage with a four-year-old. They’re more modern by design and the staterooms have character theming. Some of the lounges are themed to beloved theme park attractions. The spa is larger and there’s a bit more to see and do, naturally because of their size. For some families, the ship is the destination and if that’s you, one of these Wish class ships would probably be more your speed.

And truthfully, itinerary matters as much as the ship.

Port-heavy sailings and sea-day sailings are different vacations entirely, and most families don’t know which one better fits them just by booking what stands out. I’d rather match you right the first time.

A few times a month, someone tells me a Disney cruise “isn’t for their family,” and almost every time when we dig a little deeper in the conversation, the reason they give is something that isn’t true.

So before I spend the next month walking you through how I actually plan these sailings, let’s clear the deck. Consider this Disney Cruise Class in session, because there’s a lot coming including something time sensitive I’ll get to later.

“It's not worth what the cost."

This is the big one, usually delivered by a husband holding a Royal Caribbean quote. Here's my honest response: the fare comparison misses what the fare covers. Apples to apples, Disney covers way more which makes it feel seamless and much more approachable. Royal Caribbean, while I love them you end up spending a lot more once you get onboard. The shows, the rotational dining, the service level that anticipates your family instead of reacting to it is all worth it to many families. And the real answer is even simpler: what’s worth it to your family may not be worth it for others and that’s okay! I help my client families decide which is a better fit all the time. It’s literally my job!

“It’s Disney overload. Characters and cartoons around every corner.”

Listen if you hate Disney, obviously Disney Cruises won’t be for you but the Disney layer is there when you want it with characters roaming the grand hall, nightly shows and themed dining but it’s still remarkably easy to dial down when you don’t. It also widely depends on the ship you choose but most have elevated spaces for both adult travelers and families. Skeptical spouses walk off these ships converted to full Disney Cruise fanatics, and it’s usually the quiet corners and the service that did it.

“My teens will be bored.”

I’m not going to sugar coat it, the waterslides-and-go-karts ships win the commercial for most teens. Where Disney Cruise Line wins is the part teens is their dedicated spaces and the freedom on board you can give them on the smaller than mega-sized ships. I’ve watched families barely see their teenagers between breakfast and fireworks, in the best possible way! Is it the right fit for every teen? No, and that’s a real conversation I have with families honestly. But typically, Disney Cruise Line wins when you have a mixed age group of kids or planning a multi-generational cruise.

“It’s not a real cruise, it’s a Disney thing.”

I get why some may say this because the most popular itineraries sail out of Florida ports visit the Bahamas. But, Disney Cruise Line has so many other itineraries available including to Hawaii, Alaska, and even Europe. Their the private island days are the part families won’t stop talking about. The ship and the island(s) ARE a big part of the appeal.

What a Disney cruise actually accomplishes is the most fully-handled vacation! Once you board, the decisions are done. For the moms on this list who are the family’s walking logistics department, it’s easily one of the best family vacations you can take because you also will feel relaxed afterwards.

And one stat says more than any myth-busting I could do:

The Disney cruise is my number one repeat booking. Theme park families branch out and explore other destinations. They usually come back to Disney or Universal a few years later. But my cruise families? They book their next cruise before they even make it back home! No other vacation type I book comes close to that loyalty and that’s saying something.

And to sum it up, here’s exactly who a Disney cruise is for

1. You have to at least like Disney. Not know-every-lyric-to-Moana like Disney, but if the mouse genuinely annoys you, a week at sea won’t fix that.

2. You have to be okay sitting down and actually enjoying a meal with your spouse for once. The kids will be begging to get back to the club more often than not and that means parents actually get a chance to breathe.

3. You have to survive a week without a casino, because there isn’t one anywhere.

4. You have to accept that the deck party is probably pirate-themed and your kids will out-dance you. A nightclub scene by the pool, nope not here but a quiet cocktail in a beautiful adult bar absolutely is.

5. And fair warning: you have to be prepared for your family to start asking when you’re going back, roughly around day two.

Now the time-sensitive part.

Disney Cruise Line releases new itineraries in big seasonal drops, and the next release for Fall 2027 itineraries could come any week now. When it happens, the best sailings and staterooms move fast, and the families who win are the ones who were ready before the announcement, not the ones who saw it on the news months later.

There’s a specific kind of post I see in Disney Facebook groups every single week. A mom asks a completely reasonable question about a Christmas trip to Walt Disney World. Within an hour she has 45 comments with 18 different opinions, and somehow less clarity than when she started.

The comments aren’t malicious. Most of them come from people who went to Disney once, had a specific experience, and now hand it out as universal truth. But the honest truth about holiday season at Walt Disney World is: it’s the one time of year where bad advice costs you the most.

So today, as your resident travel agent who has read approximately ten thousand of these comment sections, here are the pieces of holiday advice that make me want to throw my phone into the nearest body of water and what I tell my clients instead

“Skip the holidays. It’s way too crowded. It’s not worth it.”

This one hurts my heart because it talks families out of the best version of Disney World that exists.

Yes, the week between Christmas and New Year’s is packed. Nobody is arguing that. But there are times when the parks are in full-holiday mode that turns into a completely different trip. The parks are fully decorated, the Christmas parties are running, Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays is in full swing, and crowds sit at some of the most manageable levels of the entire season.

The person telling you to skip December went December 27th through January 2nd and is describing that trip. Our family visits the parks during Christmas time nearly every year and I can tell you the families who go the on non-peak weeks come home saying it was the most magical thing they’ve ever done.

“You don’t need dining reservations anymore. Just walk up or use the app.”

Whoever keeps posting this in groups, we need to talk. Walk-up availability exists occasionally but holiday season is the single worst time of year to wing your dining. Reservations open 60 days out and the good ones during party season and Christmas week are gone within days, sometimes minutes. If your family is dreaming about a character breakfast or dinner at a themed restaurant in December, that decision got made in October whether you knew it or not.

My clients don’t experience this problem, because I’m setting alarms for their 60-day window while they’re living their lives. That’s the difference between hoping dinner works out and knowing it will.

“Don’t pay for the Christmas party. The parks are decorated anyway.

This is technically true but deeply misleading. The decorations are up all day but the party is not about the decorations. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is where the exclusive fireworks, the party-only parade, the character meets in holiday outfits, and the shorter ride waits live. It runs on select nights, it’s a separate ticket, and it sells out every year. And ticket sell a lot faster than you might think.

Is the party right for every family? No. That’s a real conversation about your kids’ ages, your budget, and your trip length. But “skip it, the castle is lit up anyway” is not analysis. It’s a stranger making your decision with none of your information.

“Just rope drop every day and you’ll beat the crowds.”

Sure, rope drop works. It’s also a strategy built for adults who consider 6am a personality trait. Waking your kids up before sunrise every single day of a holiday trip so you can speed-walk to a ride and save an hour is how families end up melting down by day three. The crowds you beat at 8am come back by 11. Then you’re standing in them anyway, except now everyone’s been awake for seven hours.

Rope drop is a tool. It belongs in a plan one or two mornings, strategically planned at the right park, with rest built in around it. It is not a one-size fits all strategy and it is definitely not a substitute for an actual touring plan during the busiest season of the year.

“Book the cheapest resort. You’re only there to sleep.”

For a June trip, we could debate this one. For a holiday trip, absolutely not. Disney’s resorts at Christmas are half the experience. The giant gingerbread displays, the lobby trees, the decorations that turn an ordinary hotel into part of the trip. And more importantly, holiday crowds mean your family needs the resort more than any other time of year. Pool afternoons, easy transportation back for breaks, space to breathe when the parks are full.

The cheapest room in the wrong location during the busiest season creates the exact exhausted, over-it family that “saving” was supposed to prevent. Where you stay in December is a strategy decision, not a line item.

There’s A Pattern in All of This

Every one of these comments came from someone describing one trip: their trip. Their kids, their week, their weather, their luck. Or, they’re locals who don’t know the full vacation experience.

You’re not planning their trip. You’re planning yours. And holiday Disney is the season where generic advice does the most damage, because everything about it runs on earlier deadlines, harder sellouts, and tighter margins for error than any other time of year.

The families I plan holiday trips for don’t rely on posting in Facebook groups. They tell me about their family once, and then dining, parties, resort, and pacing get handled by someone who has done this a hundred times and is accountable for it actually working.

The Best Advice I Have for You Now?

If a November or December trip is on your radar for this year, this is your window. Right now. And if we’re thinking about next year, my answer stands. Contact me now! For five days we gathered as an agency, toured eleven resorts, collaborated during mastermind sessions, held brand photo shoots and ate more yummy food than I have any business reporting.

But the real reason why I Go On These Trips:

No, it’s not because I enjoy complimentary piña coladas. It’s actually because I care about you. There is a version of booking Mexico where an advisor sits at a desk, pulls up photos on a screen, and recommends something that looks good. That is not how I operate.

11 All-Inclusive Resorts — And Who Each One Is Actually For

Atelier Playa Mujeres kept coming up all week as the gold standard for luxury adults-only travel in Mexico. After seeing it in person, the reputation is earned. If you are planning a couple’s trip, a milestone anniversary, or any adult-only getaway, this is the top of my list.

AVA Resort Cancun is newer, strikingly modern, and feels unlike anything else in the Hotel Zone. Ultra-luxury with a design-forward aesthetic that will genuinely impress. Families who want high-end and visually memorable will find a lot to love here.

Dreams + Secrets Playa Mujeres is the one I keep coming back to for multigenerational travel. It operates as a dual resort — families on the Dreams side, adults on the Secrets side. Grandparents who want peaceful mornings while the grandkids have the time of their lives.

Fiesta Americana Condesa has something a lot of the newer builds do not: genuine character. It feels distinctly Mexican, the beach is beautiful, and it works especially well for families who want cultural richness alongside their resort stay rather than a fully insulated bubble.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico stopped me in my tracks. The easiest way I can describe it: this is the Disney of Mexico. Fully immersive, rich with activities, and connected directly to the Xcaret park experiences. Families with imaginative kids who want to feel like the vacation is an experience rather than a place to sit by a pool, this is your resort.

Hard Rock Riviera Maya is lush, music-forward, and lively in the best possible way. Dinner here on Tuesday night was one of the highlights of the week. It is not a quiet retreat and it does not pretend to be and families who want energy and personality and great pools will love every second of it. Families looking for a wind-down trip should look elsewhere, and I will tell you that up front.

Live Aqua Cancun sits in the Hotel Zone with a genuinely beautiful beach and a polished, sophisticated feel. Best fit for adults or families with older kids who want style without sacrificing location.

Devossion by Live Aqua is the boutique option in Playa del Carmen, it’s smaller, more intimate, more curated. If you want a more personal experience instead of a sprawling mega-resort, this one earns a serious look.

Planet Hollywood Cancun is high-energy and genuinely fun, and it works beautifully for the right family. Social, entertainment-forward, and built for people who want the resort to feel like the party. Not the call for anyone looking for a slow, peaceful week.

UNICO 20°87° Riviera Maya was one of my personal standouts of the entire week. It’s one of those spots I still dream about returning to. The design leans into the surrounding nature in a way that feels intentional rather than decorative. It was a breath of fresh air in the very best way. But it also didn’t have any night life and the beach was less than desirable.

But Cancun is not just one decision.

It is a vacation with very different experiences depending on who is going and what they’re after.

The families who end up disappointed almost always made the same mistake: they booked based on photos and star ratings. Two things that look nearly identical across properties can produce completely different trips.

What actually determines whether a Mexico resort is right for your family is more specific than that. It’s about all the micro details like the actual beach conditions, the actual layout of the pools, your room amenities, what kids’ programming looks like on a random Tuesday afternoon, and whether the food is genuinely good or just technically sufficient.

This is where I come in.

Most families who feel let down by a Disney Cruise didn't get a bad experience; they got the wrong one.

The ugly truth is that the ship you choose matters, the itinerary and ports matter. And right now, there's a new discount that changes the math for families with kids. Before you book it, here are five things that separate a Disney Cruise worth every penny from one that leaves your family wondering what all the fuss was about.

But first! There’s a New Disney Cruise Kids’ Deal that can Change Everything!

Disney Cruise Line just released a new promotion called Together at Sea, and it’s one of the better family deals they’ve put out in a while.

Through June 14, 2026, families can get 50% off the voyage fare for up to three kids ages 17 and under, with the purchase of two full-fare guests in the same stateroom.

The discount applies to select sailings from October 2026 through March 2027.

One of the stronger details of this promotion is that it includes some of Disney's most popular seasonal sailings, like Halloween on the High Seas, Very Merrytime Cruises, Pixar Days at Sea, and Marvel Days at Sea.

A few things to know before you get excited: The discount does not apply to Concierge staterooms or suites, and it cannot be combined with other offers or discounts. Disney Cruise Line fleet has reportedly over 80% sold for fiscal year 2026; stateroom availability for these discounted sailings is expected to move quickly. The booking deadline is June 14, 2026. That is not a lot of runway, especially when you consider how busy families are in May & June. Do any other moms dread Maycember each year or is it just me?

And before you book, here are the five things you really need to know.

But Before You Book, Read This

Not all of these are obvious, and most travel agents won't tell you them because they're not trying to protect your budget; they're trying to close a sale.

1. Pick the right ship for your family

The Disney Wonder, Dream, Wish, and Destiny are not interchangeable. The Wish skews young, and it's usually a great fit for families with kids under 10. The Dream has one of the best adult areas in the fleet and a stronger dining rotation. It’s also a great mid-sized option. If you have teenagers, ship selection matters even more because the teen club offerings can vary significantly. Booking "a Disney Cruise" without this conversation is where families go wrong.

2. Don’t book the longest sailing assuming more = better.

A 3-night cruise done right will outperform a 7-night cruise with the wrong ship, the wrong stateroom category, and no strategy. Longer sailings cost more and require more planning and a thoughtful itinerary. And the biggest question I get all the time is, how long should we cruise if it’s our first ever cruise? And for this, I often find 4-5 nights is the sweet spot. But all of this requires intentional decisions, not picking from what’s available and hoping for the best.

3. Know what’s actually included — and what isn’t.

Your fare covers dining, live entertainment, youth clubs, and most onboard activities. It does not cover specialty drinks, specialty dining add-ons like Palo or Enchanted Garden brunch, most spa services, or Port Adventures.

Most importantly, you’ll want to know everything that’s included so you can fully experience the magic of a Disney Cruise! The worst mistake you can make is not knowing this piece and showing up on board feeling underwhelmed and feeling like you wasted your precious PTO and vacation fund.

4. Understand your stateroom category before you commit.

The difference between an inside stateroom and a verandah isn't just a view; it's how your family functions for 4-7 days. Families with young kids who nap benefit enormously from a verandah where parents can sit outside while kids sleep. Inside rooms are dark, and work can be well-suited for families who plan to be off the ship most of the day. This is a conversation worth having before you book.

5. The big one! Know who Disney Cruise Line is actually for and who it isn’t.

Disney Cruise Line is not the right cruise line for every family, and booking it for the wrong reasons is one of the most expensive mistakes I see! If your family’s priority is the biggest waterslides, the most dining variety, or the lowest price per night, other cruise lines can serve you better. Disney Cruise Line is for families who want immersive theming, exceptional kids’ programming, and a genuinely stress-free experience where the details are handled. The character meet & greets and themed nights are real magic, the service is exceptional, and the ships feel intentional in a way that budget lines don't. But you're paying for that, and if your family won't feel the difference, you shouldn't pay for it.

Most families wait too long, and it costs them the ship, the stateroom category, or the sailing date they actually wanted. Next in the Disney Cruise 101 series, I’m walking through exactly when to start planning, what to do first, and how far out you need to be thinking to get the trip right.

Disney World 2027 vacation packages went live on April 16th.

And I’ve been getting lots of DMs and emails.

This tells me exactly what I expected: families who’ve been in planning mode for months finally had something concrete to react to. But I’ve been getting this question a lot: Should we book 2027, or does 2026 still make more sense for us?

It’s a better question than most people realize. And the answer is not “book 2027 now because the packages just dropped.” Let me tell you what I’m actually telling clients this week.

An important thing is missing:

When 2027 packages dropped, most of the coverage focused on what’s new like the returning Deluxe Table-Service Dining Plan, returning resort perks and the yearly price increases baked in across the board.

What didn’t get the same airtime: kids eat free is gone in 2027.

In 2026, families who purchased a Disney Dining Plan as part of their resort package received a complimentary dining plan for kids ages 3–9. It’s not discounted, free! For families with two kids in that window doing character dining and table-service meals across a 5-night stay, that perk moves the needle on the real cost of a trip by hundreds of dollars.

In 2027, it will be replaced with 20% off kids' dining, which sounds okay if you didn’t know what the perk for this year is. It isn't the same thing, not even close.

There’s also a Free Dining promotion for everyone (Yes everyone in your party not just kids aged 3-9) and this one has a hard deadline. To qualify, you need to book before April 30. Travel dates covered are select nights June 28 through October 3, October 19 through 31, and December 6 through 21. This is one of Disney’s most popular offers and it covers some of the best travel windows of the year — Halloween season, Food & Wine Festival, early holiday. When it’s gone April 30th, it’s gone.

So should you book your trip for 2026 or 2027?

Here’s how I’m guiding clients who are thinking about it this week.

When to choose 2026: Two dining offers exist this year and most importantly, neither of them carry over to 2027 that we know of right now. The 2026 KIDS EAT FREE runs all year with no deadline, which is ideal for families with kids ages 3–9. The Free Dining promo for everyone ends April 30th and covers some of the most popular travel windows. Beyond the dining question, 2026 pricing is running lower than 2027 across the board. Fall 2026 in particular is a strong time to consider with lower crowds, solid resort availability, better pricing, and you capture every perk before they disappear.

When to wait: Tropical Americas is expected to open at Animal Kingdom in 2027, which is going to be a real addition to that park. If new experiences are the draw for your family and the dining perks aren’t a major factor then waiting may be best. Maybe your kids are outside the 3–9 window or you prefer to pay as you go on food, 2027 has a genuine case. The new Deluxe Table-Service Dining Plan launching in 2027 is also worth considering for families who want three full meals a day covered.

The real mistake I see families make over and over: waiting for a better offer that may not come. 2027 prices are running approximately 4% higher than 2026. Both major dining perks from this year are gone next year as far as we know. And I see it every year, waiting at Disney rarely gets rewarded the way families hope it will.

The answer isn’t the same for every family. But if you’re not sure which year is yours, that’s exactly what a planning call with me is for.

Your top Disney World questions — answered:

Every time I send out my email newsletter, more questions come in than I can answer individually. So I’m pulling the ones I’m hearing most and answering them the way I would on a planning call: directly, without the fluff.

1. Is it still worth staying at a Disney resort in 2027? Yes, it still very much is. The on-site perks have genuinely come back in a meaningful way over the last two years. Perks like: early park entry every day, free water park admission on check-in day for summer stays, extended evening hours at deluxe resorts on select nights, and early Lightning Lane access that can mean the difference between a mediocre park day and a magical one. Yes, I’ve seen the difference firsthand, and no, I’m not just saying that lightly. For families with young kids, especially, being on-site means your transportation is taken care of from the moment you arrive. Driving to the parks is not the flex you think it is. It adds an hour to your morning and another at night, plus who wants to drive on vacation? Not me. Having the ability to get back to your resort quickly without hassle is so nice. Unless you’re traveling with a large or extended family of over 10 people and need a kitchen (which some resorts have anyway) I really don’t recommend it. That said, on-site isn’t the automatic right call for every family or every budget. The conversation about where to stay is one of the first things we work through on a planning call, and the answer of what I recommend is almost never the same twice.

2. How many park days do you actually recommend?

   Fewer than most people think. And I know that’s not what the internet tells you.

   The industry default of five, six, or even seven park days exists because it’s profitable, not because it’s right for families. After planning hundreds of these trips, the families who come home saying it was the best trip of their lives are almost never the ones who maximized park time. They’re the ones who had breathing room.
   
   For most families with kids under 10, I'm designing park days with intentional resort time built in. For older kids who are ride-focused, we can push that further. But the starting point is always the same question: what does your family actually need to feel like this was magical, not exhausting? The answer to that question is what determines the right number of days.

   

   3. What is the best age to take kids to Disney World for the first time?

   This is one of the questions I get most, and my honest answer probably isn't what you've read elsewhere. There is no universally best age. What there is: a real conversation about what your family will actually experience depending on where your kids are right now.

   Kids under three are free! But they also nap, they hit walls fast, and the whole trip has to be structured around that. Done right, a toddler Disney trip is magical. Done wrong and it can be too many hours, too many parks, too much sprinting. It’s miserable for everyone.

   The age range I see produce the most consistently magical trips is roughly 4 to 8. They’re old enough to understand what’s happening but also young enough to be completely undone by a character hug, tall enough for a real selection of rides, and yet still fully in the wonder zone.

4. What's included in the 2027 Disney Dining Plans and is it worth adding?

   For 2027 there are now three tiers.

   The Quick-Service Dining Plan covers two quick-service meals and one snack per person per night. The Table-Service Dining Plan adds one sit-down restaurant meal per night. The new Deluxe Table-Service Dining Plan is returning for the first time since before the pandemic. It covers three meals a day: two table-service and one quick-service per night. That last tier is the only option that accounts for all three meals daily.
   
   Now, whether any of them are worth adding depends entirely on how your family actually eats at Disney, which restaurants matter to you, how many character meals are on your list, and whether the structure of a prepaid plan fits the way you travel. For some families, it simplifies the whole trip, especially if it’s free! For others, it creates constraints that work against the kind of flexible, breathing-room experience I design. This is one of those decisions that looks simple and isn't, and it's exactly what we can sort through together.

5. Is Disney World actually worth it right now? I’m going to give you the honest answer, not the travel agent answer. Yes, but it requires intention in a way it didn’t used to. There’s a real conversation happening right now about whether Disney has crossed a line on cost, app dependency, and the sheer amount of planning required just to have a good day. Some of that criticism is more than fair, and when multiple major attractions are closed for refurbishment at the same time (which is the current reality right now) it affects the experience.

   Here’s what I know from planning these trips for years: the families who come home saying Disney was absolutely worth every dollar planned intentionally. They weren’t there in peak summer heat, sprinting between all four parks. They didn’t try to see everything. They had the right number of days, breathing room built in, dining locked months out, and someone telling them what to skip and what to prioritize. The families who come home saying they’ll never do it again did the opposite.

   Disney is still absolutely worth it. It just rewards planning more than it used to — and punishes winging it more than it used to.

I get this question literally year-round. Every. Single. Year.

And right now, with the booking deadline closing April 30 (that’s 2 weeks!), my inbox is absolutely exploding with quote requests.

But here’s what most people don’t realize:

Free dining isn’t the only deal available right now.

In fact, THREE different promotions are competing for the same travel dates, and depending on your family, one might save you way more money than the others.

Let me show you what I mean.

• Travel dates: June 28 - October 3, October 19-31, December 6-21, 2026

• Book by: April 30, 2025

• What you get: FREE Dining Plan for everyone in your room.

Notice the problem?

These dates overlap. You could qualify for multiple offers for the same trip, and they can’t be combined in most cases. So which one should you choose?

When my clients reach out and ask ‘Should I book Disney’s free dining deal? There’s a list of questions running through my head that I need addressed first to make the best decision. This is where having a pro in your corner really shines through!
It depends ENTIRELY on your family. There’s no universal ‘best deal’ out there.

5-night trip, deluxe resort
Their Best deal: Free Dining (saved ~$1,500 in meal costs)

Family B: Snackers who prefer quick counter-service, very budget-conscious
5-night trip, value resort
Their best deal: 30% room discount (paying out of pocket for snacks was cheaper than full-price room + free dining plan they wouldn’t fully use)

Family C: First-timers who want to hit all 4 parks

5-night trip, moderate resort
Their Best deal: 4-Park Magic Ticket (perfect for their touring style)

All of these families are traveling this summer with four totally different dynamics.

This is literally professional travel advisors exist. Especially when it comes to Disney! But you must know, this level of planning is applicable to anywhere you’re traveling to.

We’re not here just to take your order and “book your trip” you could do that yourself online.

Welcome to the sixth post about what a real-life Orlando vacation looks like as a family of five! If you missed any of the other parts, you can find them here!

Everyone wants to know what food actually costs on an Orlando trip. So I thought I’d break it down here.

Here’s the real number: we spent just under $1,800 feeding a family of five for 10 days and that included several sit-down dining options like Flying Fish, Mythos, a sushi restaurant off-property, and Banana Cabana at Caribbean Beach Resort.

Not $100 / per person per day like I’ve seen some blogs recommend. Not even $3,000 for the trip. 1800 total.

Let me show you exactly how we did it!

The Strategy Started Before We Even Checked In

The first thing we did when we got to Orlando? Publix.

We had our car for this trip, which gave us the flexibility that matters when you’re trying to manage food costs. We could hit a grocery store. We could grab fast food off-property when it made sense. We could drive to that sushi restaurant on our first night instead of being locked into resort dining.

If you don’t have a car, your food strategy will look different, so keep that mind. Sometimes it’s even more to rent a car & pay for parking versus pay for food on-site at your resort & parks, and you’ll want to consider both options. But having transportation definitely helped us keep costs down while still eating well. This is where having a travel professional help you map out your vacation comes in handy!

Here's what that $200 bought us

Breakfast items: Milk & Almond Milk, individual cereal cups, bagels & cream cheese, etc.

Easy snacks: Uncrustables (these were a must ), mac & cheese cups (just add water & microwave), Hillshire meat & cheese packs, Protein sticks, Granola bars

Fruits & snacks: easy to pack fruit like bananas, oranges, apple slices, juice boxes

and sunscreen, usually when flying we always add this to my grocery order!

The entire strategy was to focus on protein and fiber. Pack things that could go in our park bags and be eaten later without needing plates or utensils.

And a small thing that worked in our favor was my younger two girls are light eaters and pretty picky. So while other families might be buying $30+ kids’ meals at table service restaurants, my girls were genuinely happy with an Uncrustable, some fruit, and a juice box.

That picky eating reality? It actually helped our budget.

Where We Spent: The Sit-Down Meals

We didn’t eat out of our room for 10 days. We splurged on sit-down restaurants when it made sense.

Here’s where we spent on meals beyond quick service

Universal:

• Kura Revolving Sushi Bar (arrival night): 125

• Mythos (Late Lunch): 250

• Breakfast at Leaky Cauldron: 75

• Minions Cafe dinner: 75

Disney:

• Flying Fish: 300

• Dinner at Disney Springs: 100

• EPCOT: 150 that included snacking around the world & Regal Eagle lunch

• Docking Bay 7 at Hollywood Studios: 60

• Banana Cabana (last night, poolside): 115

• Quick service dinner at Caribbean Beach : 70

• Primo Piatto grab-and-go: 20

• Cake Bake Shop (cake & coffee): 40

Plus quick service and snacks throughout, we spent about $150 per day to feed five people in Orlando, including sit-down restaurants.

What We DIDN'T Do:

Here’s what we skipped intentionally:

❌ No character dining
My kids are past the toddler character-obsessed stage. They like to meet the characters, but have done this several times already, so this wasn’t a non-negotiable for our trip.

❌ No pre-fixe fancy restaurants
We didn't do California Grill or any of those 70+ per person prix fixe experiences. Although they’re nice, it just wasn’t in the plan this time!

❌ No Disney Dining Plan
We paid out of pocket for everything, which gave us total flexibility. Some days we ate big meals. Some days we snacked our way through the day.

With all this in mind, this stategy isn’t for everyone.

I’d say we ate pretty well for vacation! But if this is your first Disney trip or your last trip for a long time? Do the character meals & themed dining, make the memories!

If you’re traveling during a hot, busy season? Those sit-down meals become sanity savers with air conditioning, a place to sit down, and a break from the crowds.

But for us? This was not our first rodeo. We go to the Disney parks every year. We’ve done several of the amazing sit-down dining restaurants. I personally have a list of favorites I share with my clients. But we decided to do a longer Florida trip this time with fewer of those extra fancy, budget-busting experiences. This trip was our kids' first time at Universal and we wanted to focus on that! And in January, with moderate crowds and cooler weather, we didn't need the escape of table service meals every day. So we didn’t!

Club Level: The Meal Infrastructure That Saved Us

Another thing that helped our food budget significantly: staying Club Level at Royal Pacific. When we upgraded, we got:

• Full breakfast spread the next morning

• Afternoon grab-and-go snacks we packed for the parks

• Evening appetizers that became a full dinner

• Coffee and lattes all day

• Express Passes for our entire family!

That one night covered multiple meals and removed the mental load of “where are we eating” for an entire day for me. And when you factor in the food we didn’t have to buy, Club Level wasn’t a splurge! You can read all about that here or check out my video on Youtube!

And now what you’re waiting for…

The Complete Trip Budget (Because I Know You're Wondering)

Since we're being transparent about food, let’s talk entire budget. If you’ve read my previous post we spent about 3000 at Universal. What about Disney? Let’s break everything down!

Accommodations:

• Sapphire Falls (3 nights): 600

• Royal Pacific Club Level (1 night): 450

• Caribbean Beach (5 nights): 1,750

• Total: 2,800

Park Tickets: 3000

• Universal (3-day tickets with Rock the Universe event access): $1,000
  (Note: We got a deal with the event, which is why tickets were lower than usual. Normally 3-day Universal tickets run similar or even more than Disney pricing.)

• Disney (After Hours Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom): $2,000

Food & Groceries: 1,735

Souvenirs/Extras: ~150

Grand Total: Under 8000 for 10 days, family of 5

That’s about 768/day or 154/person/day for a premium Orlando vacation with both Disney and Universal, staying a mix of moderate & premier Club Level with groceries, quick service and several sit-down meals. Not too bad! Combo trips can typically be expensive but we didn’t bust our vacation budget out of the water because we did things strategically. That’s the magic of using a dedicated, professional travel advisor!

🚨 Current Promotions That Can Make it Even Better! 🚨

Here’s where this gets interesting for anyone planning a 2026 trip.

Both Disney AND Universal have incredible dining promotions right now that could significantly impact your overall vacation budget!

Disney’s Free Dining Promotion: FREE Dining Plan for EVERYONE in your party with a minimum 4-night stay + 4-day park tickets. Valid for those who travel between June 28 – October 3, 2026, October 19 – October 31, 2026, and December 6 – December 21, 2026.

When I priced this out, for a 6-night stay in September, our family of 5 it was 5,700 including free dining. That’s a great deal!

Let me put that in perspective:

Our 5-night Caribbean Beach stay cost 1,750. Our Disney tickets cost 2,000. Our Disney food portion was ~960. That’s 4,710 just for the Disney portion of our trip. Depending on how you use the dining plan, you could potentially save $400-600+ on food costs or at minimum, have meals prepaid so you're not constantly calculating "can we afford to eat here?”

For a busy mom who doesn't want to think about all the details for every single meal, it is an amazing vacation for my brain! That mental load relief alone might be worth it for you as well.

Universal’s Stay & Dine Promotion: $300 hotel dining credit on 5-night or more stays at select Universal Orlando Resort hotels. Valid travel: April 12 – September 3, 2026

Remember how we spent 575 on food at Universal for 4 nights? If we’d had this promotion on a 5-night stay, that 300 credit would have covered more than half our Universal dining costs. And unlike Disney’s dining plan (which locks you into specific meal credits), this is a flexible dining credit. You can mostly use it however you want.

So whichever destination you’re looking at, these deals can be great for summer travel! And for families looking to do a split Universal/Disney trip like we did, combining both promotions could dramatically reduce your food costs while actually giving you MORE flexibility than we had.

Caribbean Beach is one of the most debated Disney resorts, and after staying there for five nights with a family of five, I understand why.

It's not a deluxe resort. It doesn't have character dining. The rooms are smaller than what we're typically used to. And if you're planning to rope-drop every morning, the transportation situation can test your patience.

But here’s what most people miss when they’re debating Caribbean Beach online:

The “right” resort isn’t about checking boxes on an amenities list. It’s about what supports the rhythm of your trip.

And for our 10-day Orlando vacation, Caribbean Beach wasn’t just the right choice. It was strategic infrastructure that quietly held our Disney days together.

Let me show you what I mean.

Where Caribbean Beach Sat in Our 10-Day Theme Park Heavy Vacation:

By the time we checked into Caribbean Beach, we’d already done four nights at Universal. We’d experienced Club Level at Royal Pacific. We’d done late nights at Rock the Universe. We’d used Express Passes and water taxis and had breakfast spreads waiting in lounges.

We splurged at Universal, intentionally. But now we were transitioning to the Disney portion of our trip, and we needed something different. Not less than, just different.

Here’s what we were looking for:

We wanted balance. We'd done the premium experience at Universal. We didn't need (or want) to replicate that at Disney.

We wanted a Florida vacation feel. After days in theme parks, we craved that tropical resort vibe. Palm trees. Waterfront views. Space to breathe.

We wanted Skyliner access. This was non-negotiable. The ability to be close to the theme parks we planned to visit without dealing with buses.

We needed a room that actually functioned for five humans. With a ‘larger’ family, we know the typical hotel rooms don’t work for us but since we splurged a bit for our first part of the trip, we opted for Caribbean Beach Resort’s 5th sleeper room versus a larger suite.

Is the Skyliner Worth the extra cost?

Let me be honest about the Skyliner, because this is where a lot of Caribbean Beach reviews get it wrong.

Our first Skyliner experience was heading to Hollywood Studios, and yes, there was a morning line. But here's the thing: it moved quickly. The Skyliner is constantly loading and unloading. You're not standing still for 20 minutes waiting for a bus to come. And if the lines are long, you may have to wait for the next bus.

Compare that to the bus system: you wait. Sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 20. And if you have a sleeping toddler in a stroller? You have to wake them up, unload everything, fold the stroller, carry the child, juggle your bags, and then reverse the process when you get off.

With the Skyliner, single strollers and tandem (front-to-back) strollers can roll directly into the cabin without folding as long as they fit within a 30" x 48" area. Your sleeping toddler stays sleeping, and this can be a sanity saver at the end of the night!

For mid-day breaks, the Skyliner was a game-changer. We could leave EPCOT, be back at the resort in 20 minutes total (including the short walk from our room) let the kids swim or rest, and get back for dinner without it feeling like a production.

The Skyliner wasn't just transportation. It was infrastructure that supported the kind of trip we actually wanted to have, one where leaving the parks mid-day felt realistic, not like a commitment that would eat half your afternoon.

The 5th Sleeper Reality

Let me be honest about the room situation, because this is where Caribbean Beach gets tricky for larger families.

The 5th sleeper is a small child-sized pull-down bed. My youngest is 8, so she fits fine. But I’m already thinking ahead to our future trips; this setup won’t work anymore. We’ll need a suite or two rooms.

The room itself is smaller than the deluxe resorts we're typically used to. One bathroom for five people over five nights is manageable, but it's tight. For some families, that's a dealbreaker.

We’d booked a preferred room in Martinique, which put us closer to both the Skyliner and the main pool. Less walking meant less resistance from tired kids. And the room, while smaller than deluxe, functioned because we’d packed strategically and used our time at the resort intentionally.

That’s the key. Caribbean Beach works beautifully if you plan for what it is, not what it isn’t.

The Riviera Latte Walk

Here’s a detail most people don’t think about when booking Caribbean Beach: you’re walking distance from the Riviera Resort.

Every morning, I’d take a ten-minute walk through the palm trees, past the waterfront, over to Riviera for my daily latte at Le Petit Café. It became a small pocket of peace before our day started, and I needed to be in full mom mode.

And honestly? That walk painted the entire vibe of our Caribbean Beach experience. It felt like a vacation. Not just a place to sleep between park days, an actual tropical resort where you could slow down and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Fireworks Pool Night

Our last night at Caribbean Beach, we were exhausted. The kids were tired. I was tired. We had checkout the next morning. We could have gone back to EPCOT for fireworks. We could have pushed for one more park hour. The kids swam. The water was warm. The night air was perfect. And then, in the distance, we heard it and saw them.

We didn’t plan this, so it was a nice surprise. We didn’t pay extra for a room with a view of the fireworks. And it was the most peaceful, perfect way to end our vacation.

No crowds. No fighting the nighttime crowds at EPCOT. Just my kids swimming under the stars with Disney magic in the background.

This moment? That’s what Caribbean Beach gave us, a surprise, magical moment that our kid still talks about to this day!

To sum up, what we Loved:

Let me pull this together, because these aren’t just features, they’re moments that shaped our experience:

✨ Skyliner access made mid-day breaks realistic and kept our Disney days from feeling like endurance tests

✨ The Florida resort vibe gave us actual vacation atmosphere, not just a themed hotel

✨ Preferred room location in Martinique meant less walking, easier pool access, and as it turned out, close proximity to Riviera’s Skyliner station for EPCOT days

✨ The 5th sleeper room worked for our family size and current ages without deluxe resort pricing

✨ Proximity to Riviera gave me my daily latte ritual and elevated the overall resort experience

✨ The unexpected fireworks pool moment reminded me why we plan intentionally so magic can happen naturally

The Honest Frustrations

But let me also tell you what didn’t work, because this matters if you’re considering Caribbean Beach:

The room is smaller than deluxe resorts. If you’re used to Grand Floridian or Polynesian, you’ll notice. We made it work, but it required intentional packing and realistic expectations.

One bathroom for five people over five nights is tight. Manageable for us, but I can see how this would be a dealbreaker for some families, especially with teens.

The 5th sleeper won't work forever. My 8-year-old fit fine on the twin pull-down bed. But I'm already planning ahead, next trip, we'll likely need a suite or two rooms.

It’s far from Magic Kingdom. If you’re planning to visit Magic Kingdom multiple days, the bus situation will frustrate you.

The resort is HUGE. Caribbean Beach sprawls across multiple villages. Even with a preferred room, there’s walking involved. If you or your family members have mobility concerns, this might not be the right fit.

These aren’t dealbreakers for everyone though and knowing them upfront is what helps you make the right choice for your family.

The Real Secret to Choosing a Disney Resort

We didn’t choose Caribbean Beach because it was trendy. We didn’t choose it because a Facebook group said it was the “best moderate.” We chose it because it fit the rhythm of our trip. It was the infrastructure that let us actually enjoy our Disney days without burning out.

It’s not about which one is “best.” It’s about which one supports the kind of trip you actually want to have. For us, for this trip, Caribbean Beach was exactly right.

Welcome to the fourth post about what a real-life Orlando vacation looks like as a family of five! If you missed any of the other parts, you can find them here but this is when REAL LIFE hit us.

Halfway through our combo Universal + Disney Orlando trip, I got sick.

And not the kind of tired you push through with an extra cup of coffee and a "we're on vacation" pep talk. The real kind, where everything is heavy and slow and your body has already made the decision for you before you even get out of bed.

I woke up that morning knowing. And we were supposed to be starting Disney that day.

If I’d planned this trip the way most social media itineraries recommend with four or five park days and no margin built in anywhere, I would have had exactly two choices. I could either force myself to push through it, or lose the money. And neither of those is actually a vacation.

Here’s what happened instead:

We had already built in a transition day. We planned to check out of Universal, head to a Disney water park for the afternoon and ease into our Disney resort. It was meant to be a reset. It was designed to be a reset day, a chance to breathe between two very full halves. What I didn't anticipate was that I'd be the thing that needed resetting.

But once we checked out of Universal and headed to Disney, I went to bed. Seriously!

My husband did a grocery pickup (thank goodness we had a car!) he did the laundry, took the kids to the pool, and they visited nearby family. This allowed me to actually rest.

And we reshuffled our Disney days. It took maneuvering, but it worked because nothing was stacked so tightly that one sick day would collapse the whole plan.

When I finally felt better, we didn't try to make up for lost time or charge into the most demanding day on the schedule. We shifted to Animal Kingdom instead of our original Epcot day packed with Festival of the Arts and a full list of must-dos, and honestly? It ended up being one of the best days of the entire trip. We moved slowly, we actually looked at things, and we let the day be what it was instead of trying to conquer it.

You’re told to maximize every day, stack the park days back to back. Plan a dining reservation for each day. Hit ALL of the parks, open to close. But these trips aren’t meant to be quick sprints. It’s a family vacation afterall!

If you plan that nothing will go wrong, the smallest disruption feels catastrophic.

If you plan for flexibility, disruption is merely a detour, not a disaster.

We didn’t lose park days. We didn’t waste hundreds on non-refundable tickets. We didn’t drag ourselves through a park, miserable just because “we paid for it.”

What can this look like for your family vacation?

Planning like a marathon doesn’t mean adding more days.
It means using the days you have differently.

If you’re only in Orlando for five or six days, you don’t have to do all four parks.

You can choose three. (I know, I know this goes against what a lot of travel agents tell you) But I’m here to tell it to you straight.

So if you need it, here’s my permission slip: You don’t have to visit all four parks. You don’t prove anything by checking every box and you won’t win any awards for being the most exhausted family in Orlando.

When you plan wisely, everything slows down. You can sleep in at least once, actually use the resort amenities, or leave the parks early without guilt.

And if you really want to do all four parks? You absolutely can. But you build it differently.

You don’t stack your two longest parks back-to-back. You avoid putting your late-night fireworks park before an early rope drop morning. You don’t add park tickets to your arrival day. You think about rhythm like a pro: where to push, where to ease up, and where to recover in the same way a marathon runner thinks about pacing a race.

When we shifted our schedule, that margin is what saved us. We weren’t unraveling a tightly wound plan. We could simply adjust the spacing.

Choose your “heavy” days intentionally and pair them with lighter ones.
Know which park is easiest to leave early.
Don’t overschedule dining every single night.
Give yourself at least one flexible afternoon.

It’s not about doing less. It’s about winning the marathon.

What to Do Before You Start Planning

Club Level is one of those upgrades people either swear by—or completely dismiss.

And honestly?
Both reactions make sense.

Club Level only works if you’re willing to break from the parks and use it intentionally. For our family, during a Universal trip with long days, late nights, and special events, it didn’t just work it quietly held the whole plan together.

Here’s how we actually used it, and why I’d do it again for this type of trip.

What Club Level Gave Us (Beyond “Free Food”)

Yes, there’s food.
But what Club Level really gave us was structure without friction.

On our check-in day, we:

• Stopped in late morning for lattes

• Grabbed snacks and drinks while getting settled

• Let the kids decompress without committing to a full meal

That evening, we came back for “appetizers,” which, if you have kids, you already know how this ends. It ended up being enough for a full meal while leaving room for snacks in the parks later. My kids turned salad, finger foods, pasta, and dessert into a full dinner without anyone arguing about menus, prices, or waiting for a table. And that, my friends, was worth every penny!

No rushing.

No overstimulation.

No extra decisions & planning for mom.

It worked beautifully!

Breakfast: Where Club Level Really Earned Its Keep

Breakfast alone can make or break a Universal theme park morning. Instead of mobile ordering, standing in lines, paying theme park prices and starting the day already overstimulated, we opted for convenience & comfort!

We ate a full breakfast in the club, filled up properly and grabbed a few snacks for later. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of options inside the lounge during breakfast!

This meant fewer snack stops, fewer impulse purchases and zero mid-morning hunger meltdown. And for a family of five, that matters!

“But Doesn’t Leaving the Park Waste So Much Time?!”

This is the big question I often get asked and the honest answer is: it depends on your family.

From the Universal gates to Royal Pacific via water taxi, you’re looking at about 7–10 minutes each way. And we didn’t mind hopping in and out for dinner. We liked the mental reset and it helped us pace long days and late nights.

If you’re the type who wants to stay in the park from open to close without leaving?

Club Level might not be for you.

But if you value:

• A calmer place to eat

• Not having to think about whthe next meal

• Easy access to drinks and snacks

• And the ability to reset without going back to your room

That short ride can actually feel like a relief.

The Cost Comparison

Let’s talk numbers—because this is where Club Level often surprises people.

If we didn’t use Club Level, a typical park food day for our family of five would look like:

• Breakfast at Leaky Cauldron: $75

• Sit-down dinner in the park: $100+

• Drinks & snacks throughout the day: easily another $30–$50

That’s conservatively $200+ per day in food and drinks.

Couple that with the fact that Express Passes are also included, I say it’s a steal!

The Universal Takeaway

Here’s what this Universal strategy really comes down to:

We didn’t plan around rides. We planned around people: Ages. Energy levels. Attention spans. Event nights.

And the reality that this wasn’t a 3-day sprint it was part of a much bigger trip.

That’s the difference between copying someone else’s itinerary and building one that actually works for your family!

Universal is where a lot of families accidentally burn themselves out.

The parks are immersive. The rides are intense. The temptation to “just do one more thing” is strong and before you know it, you’re dealing with overtired kids, short tempers, and a vacation that starts feeling like a test of endurance.

So instead of trying to conquer Universal, we planned it to work for us.

Why We Put Universal First

My younger kids have been to Disney World many times but this was their first Universal visit. I planned it first intentionally so they’d have the most energy for it! The rides are bigger. The special events run late. And if you don’t plan for that reality, Universal can quietly drain the rest of your trip before you even realize it.

So instead of trying to “maximize” Universal, we planned it to support the rest of our 10 days.

So What Was the Plan?

The Universal portion of our trip included:

• 4 nights on-site at a Universal resort

• 2 days with Express Passes

• Club Level access for 1-night at Royal Pacific

• 3-day Park tickets with Special Event Access

• Budget was approximately $3500, including food purchases

Here’s how it was planned intentionally:

Day 1 Wasn’t a Park Day (On Purpose)

We checked in, picked up tickets, let the kids pool hop, grabbed groceries (yes, snacks & sunscreen were on that list), and did a relaxed dinner. That slower start made the long days ahead feel manageable instead of overwhelming.

We visited during Rock the Universe

Rock the Universe was part of the plan but it wasn’t the whole plan. We had morning park time, a scheduled sit-down lunch, a mid-afternoon resort break and then concerts in the evening.

And here’s the key part: around 8 pm, my husband took the two youngest back to the hotel. Not because the day failed, but because we planned for split nights from the beginning. They relaxed in the room with chicken nuggets & cartoons while my teen & I enjoyed the late night concerts. This meant everyone got to enjoy their vacation instead of making everyone fit the same plan!

Express Passes: Not Every Day, Just the Right Ones

We got two days worth of Express Passes and we did use them wisely! I picked our second and third park day when energy mattered more than endurance. We wanted the parks to feel easier, not longer and it worked beautifully!

We opted to splurge on Club Level at Club Level at Royal Pacific

Staying Club Level at Royal Pacific wasn’t about luxury, it was about infrastructure.

Club access meant things like: breakfast without lines, lattes steps away from your room instead of traveling downstairs, easy evening bites that made early exits feel intentional, and a concierge team ready to assist your plans!

It also gave me as a mom a break from planning all the meals & snacks! No scrambling & no extra decisions. Food was already pre-planned and readily available.

The Final Universal Day: Full Park, Fully Supported

Our last Universal day was a true full park day with Express Passes and Club Level fully in play. And because we hadn’t pushed every day before, energy was still there, my kids’ patience was higher and the parks felt fun!

This was the payoff of everything that came before.

The Universal Takeaway

Here’s what this Universal strategy really comes down to:

There was a time when I thought the right way to do Disney (and Universal… and Orlando in general) was to squeeze every last drop out of every single day…

• Rope drop every morning

• Staying in the parks from open to close

• Park hopping as much as possible

• The mindset of “we paid for it, so we have to do everything”

It’s travel planned like a military operation: tight schedules, little flexibility, and very high expectations. Now, if that sounds like your dream vacation, no shade — I’ve planned trips this way before. I just don’t plan my clients (and my own) trips that way anymore.

Not because I can’t. But because I realized this is supposed to be a vacation and you shouldn’t come home feeling like you need a vacation from your vacation.

This is what social media makes traveling to Orlando with kids sound like: everyone wakes up refreshed every morning, no one melts down, no one gets overstimulated, no one needs a break, no one gets sick, snd everyone enjoys moving at the same pace.

That might work for adults on a short trip, but it almost never works for families. And this is where most families have it backwards!

Hre’s how I handled intentionally planned out our personal 10-day Disney + Universal vacation.

When you stop trying to “win” Orlando, something shifts.

You’re not constantly watching the clock.
You’re not stressed about what you’re missing.
You’re not forcing tired kids through one more ride “because we paid for it.”

Instead:

• Kids actually enjoy the days they are in the parks

• Parents aren’t running on fumes by Day 4

• Evenings can be calm instead of chaotic

• And everyone feels like they had a say in how the trip unfolded

This philosophy is the reason:

• We stayed Club Level at Universal

• We used Express Passes strategically (not every day)

• My husband took kids back to the hotel at 9pm without guilt

• We did 3 Disney park days instead of jam-packing all 4 into our schedule

• We intentionally planned non-park days

• And we didn’t try to “do everything”

And spoiler:
We still had an incredible trip.

So What Was the Plan?

Before we even got on the plane, this was not a “wing it and hope for the best” kind of trip. We had a framework.

Not a minute-by-minute schedule, but a clear rhythm for how 10 days in Orlando would actually feel with five people, multiple ages, and very different energy levels.

At a high level, the plan looked like this:

• A long stay (10 days) so we didn’t have to rush

• Universal first, when energy was highest

• Disney second, with a slower pace and more built-in flexibility since the kids have been a ton already

• Intentional rest days that weren’t treated like “wasted time”

1️⃣ Not booking early enough!

Veteran cruisers know Disney cruises rarely go on sale. That means the moment itineraries drop, it’s the cheapest they’ll ever be. A Spring Break cruise can go up thousands in the first month alone.

That’s why I always stress to my clients: be on my waitlist. Even if this year was too much to manage, we can plan for the next year. 2️⃣ Underestimating the kids’ club

Many parents don’t budget for adult-only activities because they assume their kids won’t want to spend time in the kids’ club. In my experience, 9/10 families report their kids love the kids’ club and don’t want to leave! That’s your chance to enjoy spa passes, Palo, or Remy reservations while the kids are happily engaged. At minimum pack a book and your swimsuit so you can relax too!

3️⃣ Choosing the wrong ship

Every Disney ship has its own personality. Different families need different things — from stateroom layout to onboard activities. Having a pro to help you pick the right ship and itinerary can make a huge difference in your experience.

4️⃣ Not budgeting (time + money) for a pre-stay

Always fly in at least the day before your cruise. Flight delays are the worst thing that can happen and you don’t want to stress about missing embarkation day! A pre-stay keeps the vacation smooth and relaxed.

And especially on shorter cruises, a pre-stay at Walt Disney World or your port city can transform a quick weekend trip into a full-fledged vacation. It gives your family more time in the magic and allows you to explore without rushing.

5️⃣ Overpacking or underpacking

Cruise cabins are cozy and storage is limited. Bringing too much can clutter the room; too little can leave you running to buy basics. I’ve seen families bring five giant suitcases for a 4-night cruise and barely have space to move.

Conversely, underpacking can be just as stressful — like a family that forgot pajamas for the kids and had to scramble to buy them onboard. I help families pack smart, bringing exactly what’s needed for fun without extra baggage.

Here’s to finally checking a Disney Cruise off your family bucket list (without the stress)!

Okay, not literally... but close. After helping hundreds of families plan their Disney vacations, I can tell you with absolute certainty: when you visit Disney World matters more than almost any other decision you’ll make.

• EPCOT Festival of the Arts is happening (incredible food and entertainment)

Perfect for:

• First-time Disney families

• Families with young kids (3-7) who can’t handle intense crowds

• Multi-generational trips (grandparents will love the weather and manageable pace)

• Budget-conscious families

What to know:

• In 2026, there are some attractions are closed for refurbishment (but that’s okay for first timers since there’s already SO much to do!)

• Pools can be chilly so swimming may not be ideal (but the water is heated!)

• You might need a light jacket for evening

🏆 BEST FOR WEATHER: February - March (before spring break)

Why it’s amazing:

• Perfect Florida weather (70-80 degrees)

• Moderate crowds (until spring break hits)

• All attractions are open

• EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival starts in early March

• Comfortable for all-day park touring

• Families who want perfect weather without extreme crowds

• Active families who want to do everything

• Anyone who hates heat and humidity

What to know:

• Prices start increasing and weekends are busier.

• There are several events that bring in crowds that the general public may not know about.

• March gets significantly more crowded

🏆 BEST FOR BUDGET: Late August - September

Why it’s amazing:

• Great pricing on resorts and packages

• Lower crowds ( most families have returned to school)

• All attractions operational

• Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party begins (late August)

• Special promotions often available like kids eat free, special ticket offers + more!

Perfect for:

• Budget-focused families

• Families with flexible school schedules

• People who don’t mind heat/humidity

• Halloween enthusiasts

What to know:

• This is peak heat and humidity (90+ degrees, feels like 100+)

• Afternoon thunderstorms are almost daily (but brief)

• Hurricane season (though parks rarely close)

• You MUST have a heat strategy (midday breaks, water, appropriate clothing)

🎃🎄BEST FOR SPECIAL EVENTS: October & December

🎃 October - Why it's amazing

• Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (requires separate ticket, totally worth it)

• Fall decorations throughout parks

• Special Halloween treats and merchandise

• The weather is cooling down, much more managable than peak summer. Still expect mid-day rainstorms, and hurricanes are still possible.

🎄December - why it’s amazing

• Christmas decorations are STUNNING (all parks decorate after Halloween)

• Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (incredible shows and entertainment)

• EPCOT Festival of the Holidays (food, entertainment from around the world)

• Moderate crowds (until Christmas week)

• Beautiful weather, rainy afternoons are still possible but more rare.

Perfect for:

• Families who want a magical holiday atmosphere

• Multi-generational trips (everyone loves Disney during the holidays)

• Anyone who wants decorated parks without peak pricing/crowds

What to know:

• It’s going to be crowded.

• It’s going to cost more.

The Worst Months to Visit Disney World in 2026

❌ AVOID: Spring Break Season (mid-March through mid-April)

Why it’s challenging:

• Peak crowds from schools nationwide (different states have different spring break weeks, so crowds stay high for a month)

• Wait times regularly hit 90-120 minutes for popular attractions

• Difficult to get dining reservations

• Higher resort pricing

• Hot, humid weather (80-90 degrees)

If you must visit during spring break:

• Book as soon as the packages are available. (I can help with this! )

• Use lightning lanes to your advantage.

• Be realistic about what you can get done.

• Have a solid park strategy.

• Stay Deluxe at least for a few days if your budget can handle it! It comes with evening extra hours and a great escape from the park crowds when you need it.

❌ AVOID: School Breaks ( like mid February & mid October)

Why it's challenging:

• Peak pricing on everything: resorts, tickets and flights.

• Peak crowds from schools nationwide.

If you must visit during a school break, consult with a travel advisor (hey that’s me!) who can make adjustments to your plans to make your vacation more enjoyable. Things like helping with a solid park strategy, picking the right resort, and so much more.

❓ AVOID: Christmas Week (December 25-31)

Are we sensing a trend here? No but truthfully this is the busiest time at Walt Disney World. If you can’t manage crowds, do not go. But if you don’t mind crowds it can be enjoyable. There’s a big payoff though: Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are true bucket-list experiences!

The parks are absolutely stunning — full holiday decor, seasonal overlays, and a once-a-year atmosphere you can’t experience any other time. Holiday entertainment usually gated behind Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs daily inside the parks. Then there’s EPCOT on New Year’s Eve! It’s a completely unique experience with DJs, global celebrations, and massive countdowns around the world! So if crowds don’t ruin the magic for you, this week delivers once-a-year experiences you literally cannot get any other time.

I’ve been thinking about the patterns I see with the moms I work with - brilliant, capable women who are amazing at planning everyone else’s lives but forget to plan their own joy.

Around this time of year, I like to challenge myself to set some new boundaries: for my time, for my money, and for my habits. So instead of setting new years resolutions, I like to make myself a rule book that I try to follow. These “rules” help me to stop settling, stop playing small, and stop putting everything else first that comes my way instead of what I value most.

So here are my new rules (and some reminders) for 2026. I’m following them, and I hope you will too.

1. Use Your PTO - All of It

Stop saving it for “someday” or “emergencies.” Your kids are only this age once. That trip you keep postponing? Book it. Future you will thank the present you.

I see this constantly: moms banking vacation days year after year, waiting for the “perfect time” that never comes. Meanwhile, their kids go from toddlers to teenagers, and those windows for magical family experiences close.

Action step: Look at your PTO balance right now. What trip have you been postponing? Put it on the calendar this week.

2. Book the Trip Before You Figure It All Out

Hot Take: Having a trip on the calendar motivates you to save money and make it happen. Waiting until you “have enough saved” means you never book.

Put down the deposit, set up payment plans, and watch how creative you get at making it work. The plan creates the motivation. The deadline creates the discipline. The confirmation email creates the excitement that carries you through the months of saving. And if the overwhelm of planning stops you, hire a professional to help you ( I am one!)

Action step: Choose one trip you want to take in 2025. Book it this month, even if you don't have all the money saved yet.

3. Experiences Over More Toys

This one is more of a yearly reminder, but it goes without saying: your kids have enough toys collecting dust in the playroom. They probably won’t remember 90% of them when they’re adults. But what they'll remember is the time you took them on a cruise, the years you signed them up for dance classes, and the special trips you took them on their birthdays.

Every birthday, every holiday, well-meaning relatives add to the clutter. But ask any adult about their childhood memories - they'll tell you about trips, adventures, and special moments with family. Not about the toys.

So let’s set up our year with intention. Set up a way your family members can contribute to. And be the change you want to see! When your child is invited to another birthday party, ask the parents if you can gift them a class, a membership or subscription, or a fun outing with your child & theirs instead of a toy that will add to their clutter or be thrown out in 6 months.

Action step: This year, ask family members to contribute to a "family FUNd" instead of more toys for birthdays and holidays. Start looking at experiential gifts you can give to the children in your life.

4. Plan Something Just for You Every Month

Not “eventually.” Not “when things calm down.” Monthly.

Coffee with a friend. Solo Target run. Girls’ weekend. A massage. Whatever fills your cup.

You’re not being selfish - you’re being sustainable. You can’t show up for everyone else if you’re running on empty.

I see this with my clients all the time - they’ll meticulously plan every detail of their family vacation but won’t take 30 minutes for themselves in a typical week. That’s backwards.

Action step: What’s one kind of weekend or quick trip without kids I want to take this year that would fill my cup? Solo trip? Couple’s trip? That conference I’ve been meaning to sign up for? Let’s plan it!

5. Ask for Help Without the Guilt

You know what’s actually worth your time? Being present with your kids. Building Legos. Reading stories. Having dance parties.

You know what’s not? Spending 6 hours researching cruise staterooms, comparing dining plans, and trying to figure out if the 4-night or 5-night makes more sense.

Hire the photographer. Use the travel advisor. Get the meal kit service. Order the groceries online. Whatever frees up your time and mental space to actually be with your family - that’s money well spent.

Action step: Identify one thing you can outsource this month that will give you back time or mental energy.

6. Family Vacations Are an Investment, Not a Splurge

This is a big mindset shift, I know! We budget for everything: from the big stuff like new homes, home improvements, new cars, and down to the smaller sports equipment, and piano lessons - all investments in our future & theirs. But somehow we feel guilty about spending money on family vacations?

Family trips are investments in your relationship with your kids: Core memories, inside jokes, and stories you’ll hear about for decades. By protecting a yearly family vacation, you’re leaving a legacy of dedicated family time. It doesn’t have to be grand every single year, but it does have to happen because these are the most precious people in your life! Plus, traveling the world can be such a pivotal educational experience that opens up their worldview & opportunities! As long as your bills are paid, you shouldn’t feel guilty about spending money on a vacation, period.

Free Kids Dining Plan - In 2026, families can take advantage of a complimentary kids dining plan offering throughout the year! This can be a HUGE savings.

Major Park Transformations Underway -

Disney World is in the middle of its most ambitious expansion in years. While most projects won’t open until 2027 or later, the construction will be visible throughout your 2026 visit. Here’s what’s happening:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom - Tropical Americas Land

DinoLand U.S.A. is being completely reimagined into an 11-acre Tropical Americas land called “Pueblo Esperanza.” Starting February 1, 2026, DINOSAUR will close permanently to become a thrilling new Indiana Jones attraction. The area will also feature an Encanto-themed attraction, a brand new carousel ,and a quick-service restaurant in a beautiful hacienda setting.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios - Monsters, Inc. Land

The Muppets Courtyard area (including the beloved MuppetVision 3D) has closed to make way for Monstropolis. This exciting new land will feature:

• The first-ever suspended roller coaster in a Disney park - a door coaster where you’ll zoom through the laugh factory just like Mike and Sulley!

• New dining locations

• Immersive theming that brings you into the world after the movie’s events

Walt Disney Studios Lot at Hollywood Studios

Animation Courtyard is being reimagined with phased openings throughout 2026. This transformation includes The Magic of Disney Animation attraction opening later in summer 2026.

Magic Kingdom - Cars & Villains Expansions

The iconic Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat closed in July 2025 to make way for major expansions:

• Piston Peak National Park (Cars Land): Two new attractions - one family-friendly ride and one thrill ride

• Villains Land: A completely new area featuring two major attractions, dining, and shopping themed to classic Disney villains

Both projects are in early construction phases with openings likely several years away.

What this means for your 2026 visit: First-timers, this might be YOUR year! Construction can actually make Disney World less overwhelming for families visiting for the first time. My own kid’s first Epcot experience was during the massive transformation projects (locals affectionately called it “WALL-COT”). You know what? They didn’t know what they were missing! Without the pressure to see absolutely everything, we could focus on what was open and truly enjoy it. Plus, it gave us the perfect excuse to plan a return visit once all the incredible new attractions opened - and their second trip felt easier to accomplish the new things, along with their tried and true favorites.

Early 2026 (January - March)

Frozen Ever After Updates (February 2026) - The popular Epcot attraction is getting audio-animatronics figure updates to enhance the experience.

Epcot International Festival of the Arts (January 16 - February 23) - Celebrate creativity with incredible performances, visual arts, and culinary masterpieces.
